The Chronicles of the Twicebitten

Twicebitten is the oldest world I've written, and has morphed from a (very) generic ripoff of standard urban fantasy books that were popular in the mid 00's to a queer exploration of trauma and connection with a cast full of characters designed to subvert the standard tropes of urban fantasy. The initial characters were James and Morgan (although Morgan was wildly different in her first few incarnations, starting life as an obvious self-insert character), which are both based off a dream I had when I was 13.

Morgan's life has been in a slow downward spiral since birth. An ex Mean Girl who was drugged to keep her 'defiant' personality traits manageable by her mother, the victim of a brutal assault that was filmed and spread across her campus mere weeks after starting college; she finally ended up dropping out of her pre-med program after a mental breakdown caused by her abusive mother witholding her medication and forcing Morgan to go completely cold turkey. She drifted through life, ending up in a dead-end office assistant job where she could drink herself into oblivion on weekends and have ill-advised sexual encounters with strangers. Then she was turned into a Vampire and her life was completely upended yet again- and now she's trying to rebuild her sense of self with the help of her new friends.

Doctor Ganizani

Gani, The Doctor

Gani is old. Very old. So old his first spoken language doesn't even exist anymore and his first written one was Sumerian. Being as old as he is, Gani has adopted a core philosophy of hedonism- although this may just be a cover to the deep-seated longing for connection he's been experiencing since early in his unlife. He always had a good mind for problem-solving and logic, so picking up medicine (and later technology) seemed the natural path. He travelled through Middle and Northern Africa, South Asia, and Eastern Europe learning as much as he could from anyone willing to teach him; and ended up working as a doctor for the magical population based out of Egypt when the two survivors of the Royal Vampire Family Massacre appeared at his doorstep, begging for help. He proceeded to fall head over heels in love with the Prince and has been nursing that crush for over 500 years. In the modern day, he spends most of his time elbow-deep in the guts of any computer or other piece of tech he can get his hands on.

James, The 'Prince'

James and his younger sister Serena were born of an arranged marriage- their father was the King of the Vampires, an ancient genetic offshoot resulting in a subspecies that could reproduce both sexually and by traditional 'turning'. Their mother was a High Fae, tithed to the Vampiric Court as part of an ancient bargain between the two factions. The Royal Family Vampires followed a prophecy- Every third Generation would be wed to a High Fae in order to strengthen the power the Royal Family could wield, and the next two generations born would be wed to their siblings to keep that power contained to only Royal Vampires. James and his sister found this idea horrifying, but were unable to fight back against their extended family, who had already broken their parents' minds into compliance with this and other horrifying actions. After the entire Royal Family save James and Serena were destroyed in the War, the siblings fled with the help of their servant Isaac, eventually ending up with Gani and travelling together across the globe.

Deep down, James knows she isn't really a 'Prince' but has never felt safe or comfortable trying to make that part of herself known to anyone outside of the occasional sexual encounter. At some point she's going to have to come to terms with that, but for now there's more important problems to deal with.
